Tennis: Billy Harris to begin US Open qualifying campaign

He'll face James Trotter later today (18 August)

Isle of Man pro tennis player Billy Harris will begin his US Open qualifying campaign later today (18 August).

The former Albany and Castletown competitor is due to face James Trotter of Japan in the first round of the Men's Singles Qualifying phase at around 5.10pm UK time.

Harris will be one of five British athletes involved across the men's and women's singles qualifiers for the 'Grand Slam' event.

Joining him in the men's singles is Dan Evans, Jay Clarke and Johannus Monday whilst Jodie Burrage will be involved in the women's competition.

Currently, Harris sits 151st in the ATP world rankings with his last three tournament appearances also coming in the USA.

He reached the Round-of-64 at the Washington ATP 500 event on 21 July and was knocked out in the Round-of-32 in Lexington on the ATP Challenger Tour seven days later.

Most recently on 4 August he was beaten in the Round-of-32 during the ATP Challenger Tour competition in Chicago.
