
The Manx Missile, world road race champion Mark Cavendish, made a successful return to track cycling on Saturday night.
He won the scratch race at the Manchester velodrome in front of a sell-out crowd at the National Cycling Centre.
Cavendish took the honours ahead of Steven Burke.
The 26-year-old received a deafening ovation from spectators on his first appearance on a cycling track since 2009.
Cavendish, who won his first world title on the track in 2005, started riding at the velodrome as he came through the British Cycling academy.
