St Johns retain cricket's Tinker Cup

St Johns retained the Tinker Cup when they beat Ramsey by just 13 runs in a sensational finish at Mullen-e-Cloie on Sunday.

With only two overs left, the Northerners needed 16 runs for victory with five wickets left. They then lost five wickets in five balls - the last three failing to an Ewald Killian hat-trick.

Earlier, St Johns had struggled against tight Ramsey bowling. They were dismissed for 129 with opener Greg Hawke top scoring on 30. Scott Pearce made 26 and Brian Arnold took 3 for 31.

In reply, Ramsey got away to a solid start and at 77 for 1 looked on course to a good win. Rob Webber hit 40, Ollie Webster 24 and Eddie Cleator 16. However, relentless pressure from Saints began to tell and the run rate fell.

In an attempt to reach their target, the batsmen had to take chances and that led to a dramatic finish. Ewald Killian ended with 4 for 17 and was named Man of the Match.
