Shooting: Faragher claims high gun at charity shoot

One-hundred competitors part of busy event at Meary Veg

The annual Hospice Charity shoot was held at Meary Veg, Santon with 100 competitors taking part in glorious sunshine over 50 targets of five stands.

The clays were donated by LAPORTE CLAYS, and the cartridges were donated by ELEY HAWK.

The first squad out was Team Kneen at 9am with the last squad starting out at 3pm.

The early leaders in the team section were the second squad out consisting of Joe and Brian Faragher, Michael Cross and Mark Sweetman with 164 points. 

Joe Faragher was the leading individual at this stage also with 48 points. 

A running buffet was laid on for all competitors and spectators from 10am with the sausages and burgers donated by Ballahig Farm meats; Robertsons for the salads and nibbles; Agrimark for the plates etc. and ran by THE KELLY caterers. 

Each competitor also received an embroidered polo shirt.

Once all the shooting was finished and the scores were verified, we had the following results and the presentation of the medals which were kindly sponsored once again by NFU Mutual Insurers.

High gun on the day went to Joe Faragher who won on countback from Tom Moore who both shot 48.

Joe Faragher also won the junior section with Zac Bellhouse second on 45 and Ossie McLaren in third place on 34.

The leading senior was Calum Craine on 45 who beat Kyle Brits in second place on count back, third place went to Juan Cowley on 43.

In the ladies' section the winner was Jennie Robertson on 39 with Sue Doyle in second place on 37 and Rachael Bowen Matthews in third place on 34.

The leading veteran was Peter Kelly with 44 points with John Moore in second place on 42 who beat George Davies on count back, also on 42 in third place.

The leading non-member was Tom Moore with 48 points with Karl Waggot in second place on 43 and Gary Harrison in third place with 42 points

In the handicap section, Dylan Groom was the winner with a combined score of 48.7; in second place on countback was Richard Kneen on 48.3 with Dave Ritchings in third place also on 48.3.

In the team high gun section third place went to Joe Washington, Kyle Brits, Mark Corrin and lady shooter Jennie Robertson with 157 points; second place went to the early leaders Joe & Brian Faragher, Michael Cross and Mark Sweetman on 164 points but winning the gold medal with 165 points were Sue Doyle, George Davies, John Moore and Peter Kelly.

In the handicap team section the winners were TEAM EFL with team members Wayne Cuncurr, Willie McLoad, Steven Dillon and Des Kinsella with 188.3 points; in second place on 184.3 were Sir John Lorimer, Calum Craine, Steven Craine and Mike Walker with Team JDW in third place on 184 with team members John Collister Tom Martin, Nathan Yates and Dylan Groom.
