Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas down to fifth after Vale of Lune defeat

Douglas slipped a place in Regional 2 North West after a 26-17 defeat at close rivals Vale of Lune.

A Sam Walton brace plus a try and two conversions from Jamie Mayall, saw Vale race into an early lead.

Matty Wood pulled one back for Douglas which he converted himself to leave the Vale lead 19-7 at half time.

Sam Wallbank bagged the bonus point score for Vale in the second half and while Si Hoddinott and Josh Duncan both went over for Douglas in the second half, it wasn’t enough to reel Vale in.

A win for chasing rivals Burnage pushed Douglas out of the play off places.

They have a chance to recover the place next week when Burnage travel to Widnes while Douglas return to Port-e-Chee to face Firwood Waterloo.

Vagas win double header

Vagabonds took the spoils in the big game at Ballafletcher beating Ramsey 21-10.

Jack Cutts sent them on the way with an interception try converted by Cam Findlay.

Ramsey hit back with tries from Brayden Roche and Ben Hardman and led 10-7 at half time.

Ramsey had chances early in the second half but failed to put them away and when Jackson Bowers danced in on the hour mark and Cam Findlay converted Vagas led 14-10.

As the game entered its final minutes Vagas played intelligently through their forwards to run the clock down and sneak a late third try when Ed Knight crashed in from close range.

Findlay added his third conversion to close out the game.

Nomads close the gap

Douglas Celts were the runaway leaders in the Hartford Homes Manx Shield but Southern Nomads’ 36-19 win at Ballakilley Park narrowed the gap.

Nomads led 26-12 at half time after tries from Harry Brereton and Alex Maher.

Rob Craine and Conor Stephens both added scores before the break when Nomads led 24-12.

In the second half Messrs Craine and Stephens both added their second tries of the game with Mark Young converting one.
