Rugby: Vagabonds move into Manx Cup final

Ballafletcher side get best of spirited Southern Nomads

Vagabonds booked their spot in next week’s Manx Cup Final with a hard fought 20-0 win against Southern Nomads, who pushed right up to the final whistle.

Tries from skipper Dan Bonwick and the evergreen Tom Gascoyne saw them 10-0 ahead after 20 minutes. 

Bonwick almost added a second just before the half hour but was halted by a last ditch Will Taisia tackle just shy of the line.

Gascoyne added his second from a driving scrummage early in the second half which Bonwick converted and a 22nd-minute penalty from Cam Findlay left Nomads needing three converted tries to win. 

They hassled and harried Vagabonds right up to the final whistle but it just wasn’t their day today.
