Rugby: Nomads and Ramsey beaten in Cheshire finals

Douglas take big win in 'Old Firm' Manx Cup clash

Report by Dave Christian:

The Bowl heads to Sunlight tonight after a powerhouse forward performance blew Nomads away.

The Manx side trailed 35-0 at the break with Sunlight flanker Chris Gregory bagging a hat-trick.

In the second half Nomads showed they can mix it and ran in tries through Max Elwig, Finn Mcgregor, Will Taisia, Tony Quinn and George Callister plus three Mark Young conversions but it wasn’t quite enough.

Elsewhere, despite taking an early lead Ramsey were outgunned 74-22 by New Brighton in the Vase final.

Ben Hardman’s eighth-minute try put Ramsey in front but New Brighton hit back through Adam Pitt, Daz Parker, Josh Turner-Preston Dan Kayll and Jack Chatlesworth to lead 33-12 at half time, with Ste Kneale adding a second try for Ramsey.

In the second half Turner-Preston completed his hat trick, there were also three from centre Gaz Richards plus scores from Jonjo Smith and Joe Silcock.

Brandon Atchison and Ste Kneale picked up two more Ramsey scores.

As predicted Douglas eased past Vagabonds in the Manx Cup winning 81-7.

Nathan Robson was the star for Douglas with 31 of the 81 including two tries, nine conversions and a penalty.

Craig McGee, Craig Martin and Ollie Howard also scored 2 each with other tries from Aaron Mason, Brendan Kelly, Harry Cartwright and Cal Dentith.

Vagabonds points came courtesy of a penalty try.
