Report by Dave Christian:
Douglas finish 2025 in worst possible way
A fast start to the new season saw Douglas climb the Regional Two North West table steadily until reaching top spot just under a month ago.
Today’s 19-17 defeat away at bottom side Altrincham Kersal however means they’ve lost their last three on the bounce and will start 2026 in fourth place, ten points adrift of leaders North Ribblesdale.
It was a familiar story for Douglas. They were in a positive position but let the game slip away in the final ten minutes.
Zak Wikman and Jack Wallis both picked up tries for Douglas. Nathan Robson converted one, Matty Wood the other and also knocked over a penalty.
All square in friendly
Rugby was the winner on the day in the friendly between Southern Nomads and Douglas Celts at Ballakilley Park when the game ended in a 22-22 draw.
Nomads’ quick man Tony Quinn ran in two tries for the men in green with Finn McGregor and Rob Craine adding another two and Zac Hand converting one.
