Vagabonds Ladies suffer heavy opening day defeat

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas climbed the Regional 2 North West table with a 62-13 thumping of Altrincham Kersal at Port-e-Chee.

Other results went their way too, allowing a big move and while its perhaps too early to get too excited, the prospects are looking good for the 25-26 season.

Kyle Martin ran in a hat-trick of tries for Douglas, Harry Cartwright bagged two and there were also tries from Oli Corkish, Craig Martin, Jonty Cope and Harry Hewson with Matty Wood converting seven and adding a penalty to boot.

Vagas ladies well beaten at home

When Freya Crowe opened the scoring at Ballafletcher in the third minute there was some hope around the ground, Sale however quickly dashed it and ran out 91-22 winners.

Just before ten minutes Lauren Jenkins replied for Sale and Kath Bodey converted to take the lead.

Emma Lifshitz and Katie Colton quickly added two more and when Jenkins crashed in for her second, Sale were suddenly 25-7 in front.

Natalie Bush replied for 'Vagas' and when Crowe touched down for her second, Vagabonds trailed by just 12 points and a comeback looked possible.

Lauren Jenkins, however went over for her third at the end of the first half to stop the revival and when the teams turned around Sale were 32-17 ahead.

There was no let up for 'Vagas' in the second half - Izzy Turner and Leila Watkins both ran in hat-tricks for Sale, Katie Colton added two more and there were also tries for Kath Bodey and Charlotte Thatcher with Niamh Hopkins adding a conversion.

Douglas Celts return with a bang
