Rugby club's coronavirus efforts recognised by England RFU

Ramsey helping the vulnerable and key workers

A local rugby club has been praised for its community work during the coronavirus pandemic by the Rugby Football Union.

Ramsey Rugby Club was the first focus of the RFU's “Rugby’s Values and Importance of Volunteers” article, which highlights club efforts across member regions to help vulnerable and elderly residents, as well as keyworkers.

The piece describes the club as being “big on teamwork”, highlighting its doorstop delivery service, letterbox drop of leaflets and food bank distribution hub.

Nine-year-old player Jayden Gaines also received a mention, after he raised more than £2,000 for the Isle of Man Foodbank by riding 100 miles on his bike.

England Rugby Football Union CEO Bill Sweeney says “we are all extremely impressed by the efforts being made across the game to support local communities and keep players, young and old, engaged with their clubs during the lockdown.”
