Over €30,000 raised to help injured Southern 100 rider

Anthony O'Carroll was involved in incident on first day of this year's meeting

Thousands of Euros have already been raised to help a rider injured at this year's Southern 100 Road Races.

Anthony O'Carroll was involved in an incident during the newcomers' familiarisation lap on the opening day of this year's meeting on the Billown Course on 8 July.

As of this afternoon (22 July) more than €31,000 has been donated to help Anthony and his family, surpassing the original target of €30,000.

The GoFundMe page set up by Aoife Flavin says: "Anthony did have insurance and this will cover a certain amount of his medical needs for now. Anthony was initially maintained in an induced coma and intubated.

"As well as many broken bones which will require many surgical procedures in the future. More seriously Anthony suffered a significant head trauma, At the moment Anthony is unconscious and will require a lot of rehabilitation care in the future.

"Anthony is an only child to his parents Mary and Neilus, who flew from Ireland to maintain a bedside vigil, and will remain there for the foreseeable future. Anthony’s father Neilus also fell seriously unwell last year and is still recovering from his illness. His wife Mary is his sole carer.

"Now Anthony and his family need everyone’s help now more than ever, Please help support him and his parent through this difficult time.

"Money received will help alleviate the financial costs of Neilus and Mary’s stay in Liverpool, and to finance Anthony’s future rehab."

Mr O'Carroll's team at this year's Southern 100 Road Races - Team ILR - adds they 'continue to hold Anthony and his family in our thoughts and prayers.'
