AFC Wimbledon, who came to Ramsey to play games against the host club and the Isle of Man national side as part of their pre-season, start life in the Blue Square Premier League at home to Luton Town.
One Manx player impressed their coaching staff so much so that he was offered a trial.
St. George's forward Calum Morrissey played for AFC Wimbledon in a friendly last Saturday against North Greenford United and scored twice in a 6-1 win.
However, it looks like that will be as far as it goes.
Manager Terry Brown is quoted on their website as saying "we were very impressed with Calum although he is clearly not fit yet. We started to discuss how he could get himself fit so that we could give him a definite 'yes' or 'no', but he gradually realised that the practicalities of joining us would put too much of a strain on his personal circumstances. So, with reluctance, we have mutually agreed to call off our discussions. Calum is a talented lad and we'll be recommending him to a club nearer the Isle of Man."
