MLav Racing unveils debut TT team

Ian Hutchinson and Mike Browne to form two-rider lineup

MLav Racing has officially unveiled its team to debut at the Isle of Man TT Races this year.

The squad - run by former British Supersport champion Michael Laverty - will run two riders in the form of 16-time TT winner Ian Hutchinson and emerging Irish racing talent Mike Browne.

Both will campaign the event in the 1000cc classes on BMW M1000RR machinery whilst Hutchinson will also represent the team in the Supersport class with machinery in that to be finalised.

The official announcement comes just over a month after the team's plans we confirmed by Laverty during the MotoGP weekend in at the Argentine Grand Prix.

Hutchinson returned to the TT last year with the Milenco by Padgett's Motorcycles team having missed the year before on medical grounds after suffering a stroke in February 2023.

The Yorkshireman says: "Having missed all the 2023 season, last year’s TT didn’t quite go to plan with injury in pre-season and then machinery issues during TT fortnight so the biggest thing for me this year is to have a trouble-free pre-season and a trouble-free TT!

"No one needs laps around the Mountain Course more than me but although last year’s results weren’t what I’d hoped for, I still managed around 40 laps at the TT plus another nine at the Manx GP and every lap at this stage of my career is both valuable and priceless."

Meanwhile, two-time TT podium finisher Browne enjoyed a strong racing fortnight in 2024 managing top-ten finishes in all seven solo races, with a best finish of third in the Supertwin TT Race 2.

The competitor from Killeagh adds: "Last year I took the risk of running the Aprilia, one I was willing to take, but although from the outside the results looked good, it was really difficult and it would take a lot of development work to get it good around the Mountain Course, something I didn’t really want to do this year.”

“I’d rather be on a bike that’s proven and with Michael running the BMWs, that box is ticked this year. Being on a bike that’s tried and tested is a big deal for me, and to be part of such a professional team as well makes it even better."

On setting up the new venture, Team Owner Laverty says even though he never raced on the Snaefell Mountain Course 'anyone who knows me knows I've always loved the TT', describing the event as 'the pinnacle of our sport.'

On how the team concept came about, he comments: "Plans for setting up a new team started with a casual conversation back in September and although initially, I was approached to assist a team, the more I thought about it the more it made sense to do it ourselves.

"My Grand Prix commitments keep me busy, and it’s taken me a bit longer to get everything boxed off in terms of sponsors, team personnel and infrastructure, but I spoke to a couple of riders, getting Hutchy signed up first and then Mike.”
