Briton smashes lap and race record

The final race of the Festival of Motorcycling was billed as a thriller - and it didn't disappoint.

The Senior Manx Grand Prix was action-packed from start to finish.

Many were expecting a rematch of the Billy Redmayne/Malachi Mitchell-Thomas contest we were treated to in the Junior MGP.

Manxman Redmayne won that race, and it loooked as though history was repeating itself as he took a first lap lead.

Mitchell-Thomas hit back, though, and was race leader heading into the final stages.

A thirty-second penalty for disobeying yellow flag orders added insult to injury for Redmayne.

He subsequently retired before Mitchell-Thomas smashed lap and race records to win his first ever MGP.

The rider from Horwich clocked 122.221mph on his final lap, as well as beating Seamus Green's race record by 3.485 seconds.

Rob Hodson finished second with Andrew Dudgeon rounding off the top three.
