Manx Missile has to wait for next stage win opportunity

Cavendish has equalled the all-time TdF record holder

Mark Cavendish will have to wait for almost a week until he gets a realistic chance of increasing his Tour de France tally.

Yesterday he equalled all-time record holder Eddie Merckx by recording the 34th stage win of his career.

Five mountain and hilly stages – split by one rest day – lie before him before he gets to Stage 19 where there is a sprint opportunity.

Crossing the finish line yesterday the Manx Missile admitted he was exhausted:

"It's like my first one. It's what I dreamed of as a kid, it's what I dream of now."
