Lockley aims to smash Manx record in London Marathon

Current record set in 1974

An elite Island runner has his sights set on smashing an Isle of Man record that's been in place for more than forty years; and he plans on doing it in one of the world's most famous events.

Ollie Lockley has been selected as just one of 40 athletes picked to compete in the 2020 London Marathon this week.

It's being run on a 2km loop, with Lockley set to race alongside some all-time greats in the sport, including marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge, and Olympic 10,000m record holder, Kenenisa Bekele.

In training, Lockley has been targeting the Commonwealth Games standard time of 2 hours 21 minutes, which, if he achieves it, will break Dave Cowell's Commonwealth Games 1974 record of 2 hours 23.  

The London Marathon is set to go ahead on Sunday, 4 October at 10:15am, and will be broadcast live on BBC1.
