Local boxers to take on North West select team

New Horizon Boxing club hosting event in Douglas this weekend

Up-and-coming boxers on the Isle of Man will welcome some of the most talented UK prospects for a series of fights this weekend.

New Horizon Boxing Club will take on North West Region Select at the Best Western Palace Hotel at 7pm tomorrow (5 October).

Head coach John Cain told Manx Radio he's been pleased with the progress his athletes have made in the last 12 to 18 months.

He expects his fighters to face a challenging, but exciting, evening in the ring:

Tickets for this weekend's event have already sold out.

In the last year the club's athletes have been gaining experience against UK opposition which started with its first event in September 2023 when they took on an England Select team in the Manx capital.

Their second event took place in March this year - also at the Best Western Palace Hotel in Douglas - this time against a Cheshire Select squad.

Among the Island club's former members is Sam Rennie who made his professional debut in the sport in Australia earlier this year.
