Laxey captain named player of the year

Jim Travers has become the first recipient of the Gordon Clague Memorial Trophy.

The Laxey and Island midfielder received the award, considered the equivalent of the writers’ player of the year award in the Isle of Man.

After a consistent campaign in which players were marked on a week-by-week basis, Travers came out on top at the end of the season.

He received the award from Tricia Clague, the widow of Gordon Clague, who along his close friend Colin McGee and statistician Eric Clague devised a ‘league table’ to assess the player with the highest marks.

Gordon Clague passed away 12 months ago and Mrs Clague was privileged and honoured to present the trophy and replica to the Miners' captain.
