Island games day six: an abundance of medals for Team Isle of Man

The Manx athletes have rounded the Island Games off in style

On the final day of competition at the Island Games in Guernsey, Team Isle of Man won 5 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals.

There was triple gold for the Isle of Man in the half-marathons as Rachael Franklin and Corrin Leeming won the women's and men's events, and the Manx men took the team gold too. The Manx women won silver in their team event.

In badminton, Jess Li and Kim Clague beat Bjarnhild Bud Justinussen and Sanna Torkhildshoj of the Faroe Islands in straight sets to win gold. Jess Li also won a silver in the women's badminton singles.

Anna Kirk and Sean Drewry won gold in the tennis mixed doubles whilst Karen Faragher and Sarah Long took silver in the women's doubles.

In shooting, Nicholas Mihailovits won silver in the English skeet. He was tied for first place but missed out on gold in the sudden death shoot off. There were bronze shooting medals as well today for Kathryn Holden in the women's 10m air pistol event and Robert Watterson in the men's individual ball trap.

In cycling, the men's team took the silver medal for the road circuit criterium, with fastest Manxman Will Draper finishing fourth.

Meanwhile, Will Draper, Corrin Leeming and Kiera Prentice took bronze in the inaugural Island Games triathlon relay.

On the athletics track, there were bronze medals for Team Isle of Man with the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams each finishing third.

In golf, the Manx men's squad of James Arneil, Daryl Callister, Liam Cowin and Robert Noon took the bronze medal with an overall score over the four rounds of the tournament of 900.

In football, the Manx women's team won their bronze medal match against Menorca 3-1.

The Manx women’s basketball team missed out on a bronze medal to Guernsey in their playoff.
