First 22 Island competitors heading to Glasgow confirmed

The Isle of Man has named its initial squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer.

Twenty-two Island competitors have been selected to fly the Manx flag in the Scottish city in July and August.

There's also hopes several more Manx participants will be named in the coming weeks.

Of those revealed today (14 May) four will compete for the Isle of Man in athletics; three in bowls; two in cycling; one each in gymnastics and para powerlifting and 11 in swimming.

Team Isle of Man's Chef du Mission Erica Bellhouse agrees that the Isle of Man having another large allocation for what is a scaled-down games this year is testament to the Island's sporting quality:

In athletics the Isle of Man will have previous Commonwealth Games experience in Sarah Astin, Ollie Lockley and David Mullarkey whilst upcoming talent, Regan Corrin is set to make his Commonwealth debut.

Two strong contenders will compete for the Island in track cycling in the form of Great Britain competitor, Matthew Bostock and former world scratch race champion, Ben Swift.

Meanwhile, a bipartite place has been secured in Para Powerlifting for 17-year-old Alfie Bezance who is currently ranked 11th in the Commonwealth in his discipline.

In a change from the last event in Birmingham in 2022, the Isle of Man will have representation in Bowls through the trio of Michael Collister, Mark McGreal and Caroline Whitehead.

Leading the Island's charge in gymnastics in 2026 will be Harry Eyres, who secured multiple medals for the Island during the International Island Games in Orkney last summer.

Elsewhere, the eleven-strong swimming team which will feature a mix of experience and new talent - among those to make their games debuts will be Libby Curphey, Lauren Dennett, Charlie Foster, Ella Justice, Magnus Kelly and Alex Turnbull.

They'll be joined by Peter Allen, Laura Kinley, Kiera Prentice, Harry Robinson and Joel Watterson who all represented the Isle of Man at the previous games in Birmingham in 2022.
