Hockey: Isle of Man loses out in thrilling masters semi-final

Harrison nets hat-trick against clinical Oxford Hawks

The Isle of Man women's masters hockey side has been beaten during a thrilling semi-final encounter in the England Hockey Championships.

The Island's Over-45's side suffered a 7-3 defeat up against Oxford Hawks during the last-four phase of the EH Women's Over 45's Tier 3 Championships on Sunday (6 April).

Donna Harrison was the star for the Manx squad in front of goal bagging a hat-trick during the clash at University of Cumbria in Lancaster.

During the first half, Oxford Hawks made a flying start to race into a 3-0 lead.

The Isle of Man got themselves off the mark with Harrison grabbing her first with a well-hit strike from open play before Oxford Hawks restored their three-goal cushion shortly before the break.

The Islanders made a swift impression after the restart with Harrison calmly rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net for hers and the Isle of Man's second to reduce the deficit again.

However, a clinical Oxford responded strong grabbing a further three goals without reply to take firm control of the tie.

With the contest slipping away, the Isle of Man did grab a late third as a consolation with Harrison securing a hat-trick by deflecting home a penalty corner strike from Roz Lynch.
