Hockey: IOM girls progress as boys knocked out

Manx sides progress to round four

The Island Under 18 and 16 girls hockey teams have progressed in the England Hockey Championships after their weekend games.

However, the Under 14 boys side will no longer take part in the competition.

Round three of the competition took place at the weekend, and saw all three teams looking to progress with the Under 14 girls.

The Under 16 side dismantled Garstang in a brilliant second half performance, where after being 0-0 at halftime, the girls scored three unanswered goals; two from Sophie Partington and one from Isla Caine.

For the Under 18's, it was a much trickier route into the fourth round.

The side had to navigate "shuffles" against Brookland Manchester thanks to Olivia Quayle who drew the match level early in the second half after going into the break 1-0 down.

The team buoyed from a strong second half, made their way to the next round as they won 4-3 in the shoot-out.

Unfortunately for the boys, it was heartbreak on Saturday as the Under 14s struggled to build on Ryan Cartwright's opener, and surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 in the dying moments against Chester.

Information on round four of the competition is yet to be released.
