Mixed sides prepare for new season starting this weekend

Four of the Isle of Man's hockey clubs played out a close-fought pre-season tournament last weekend as part of preparations for the fast-approaching 2025/26 campaign.

Ahead of the latest season starting later this week, the Mixed A squads of Bacchas, Castletown, Harlequins and Valkyrs faced off in a series of friendlies at the NSC in Douglas on Saturday, 6 September.

Three of those sides - Castletown, Harlequins and Valkyrs - registered one or more victories with the margin of victory across all six contests never higher than two goals.

Meanwhile, the Manx Hockey Association says there are already plans to expand the event next year to include all Premier League sides over a full day of competition at the same venue.

Among the ideas being considered are running two pools of four teams with the winner of each meeting in a final at the end of the day's fixtures.

The 2025/26 Isle of Man hockey season starts this Saturday, 13 September with the first matches of the senior mixed leagues and mixed under-15's division.

The results from last Saturday's pre-season tournament are listed below:
