Manx side face off against top English opposition in Cumbria
The Isle of Man men's national golf side has faced a challenging test this week during one of the highest-level events on its season calendar.
A six-strong Manx squad has finished seventh overall during this year's Northern Counties Golf Union Men's Qualifying Championship held at Ulverston Golf Club in Cumbria yesterday (7 August) with a total gross score of +69.
Hosts Cumbria topped the eventual team standings on +11 narrowly beating Lancashire (+12) who came second with Yorkshire rounding out the top three a little further back in third (+30).
Cheshire just missed out on a top-three spot in fourth on +33; Northumberland were just a further two shots back on +35 in fifth whilst Durham ended the day in sixth on +54.
In the individual standings for the 36-hole event, Daryl Callister was the Isle of Man's highest finisher on five-over-par, nine shots back on eventual individual winner Kieran Waters from Cumbria (four-under-par).
For the Manx side, Chris Kneen ended the campaign not far behind Callister on seven-over-par with Mark Sutton recording 11-over-par overall.
Meanwhile, Island teammates Joe Raeside and Liam Cowin both recorded 13-over-par in total with Jamie Arneil on 20-over-par.
