Nearly 50 have taken part in first training sessions
Those behind the new women's team at Rushen United Football Club are feeling optimistic about how far it can go in the short and long-term.
The squad began training for the first time in late January and has already attracted nearly 50 players across its first two sessions.
One of the club's academy coaches, Donna Harrison is hopeful they can get into the Canada Life Women's League next season in 2025/26.
However, she says there's no pressure to do that and they're more focused on long-term goals, one of which is helping players bridge the gap between the junior and senior women's game:
The current Rushen United girls academy covers multiple age groups ranging from Under-6's up to Under-14's.
Players aged 16 and over are eligible to train with the women's team with those of all abilities invited to attend.
Training takes place on Fridays at Colby AFC's astroturf pitch at Station Fields, Main Road between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
