Football: One Railway Cup spot still there for the taking

Top two in Division 2 at home as both continue battle

One more spot in this year's Manx Car Store Railway Cup competition remains mathematically up for grabs going into this weekend's clashes in Isle of Man football.

With Corinthians, Peel and Onchan having already secured places in the tournament, two sides - Laxey and St John's United - are both still in with a shot of taking the fourth and final slot.

During Saturday's (29 November) ties, fourth-placed Laxey hold the upper hand, knowing they would only have to avoid defeat at Union Mills tomorrow to claim their place whilst St John's United would have to win their next two and hope Laxey suffer back-to-back defeats as well as a big swing on goal difference.

The teams that qualify for the competition are the top four in the Canada Life Men's Premier League after all sides reach the halfway stage of the season of 12 games - both Laxey and St John's United have only played ten.

Elsewhere, just two points continues to separate Castletown and Colby in first and second respectively in the continuing battle for a place at the summit of Ardern & Druggan Ltd. Division 2.

Both southern sides are at home this weekend as Castletown host Douglas & District and Colby welcome Governors Athletic.

On Sunday (30 November) the Canada Life Women's Floodlit Cup continues with a double-header of matches at The Bowl in Douglas.

Corinthians take on Rushen United before Douglas Royal face off against Onchan.

There is also one separate women's league fixture as defending league champions, Peel head south to Malew.
