Football: Men's national team confirmed for 2025 Island Games

Manx women's side also announced this evening (24 Apr)

The Isle of Man's men's national football team to contest the 2025 Island Games has been confirmed.

In total, 20 players - including player/manager Chris Bass jnr. - will make the journey to Orkney for the games being held from 12-18 July.

Featuring a blend of youth and experience, there are numerous players with Island Games pedigree in previous years such as Matthew Woods, Stewart Smith and Morgan Naylor.

A number of younger emerging talents from the local game this campaign are included such as Tomas Brown of Peel, Connor Clark of Corinthians and Jason Charmer of Foxdale.

As part of summer preparations, the team will travel to Merseyside this weekend where they face Hailwood Apollo in a friendly on Saturday (26 April).

At the previous Island Games in 2023, the Manx men's side endured a disappointing campaign finishing ninth overall.

The previous football event at the games prior to that in 2017 in Gotland saw the Isle of Man men's team win gold.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Man FA has now also confirmed the Manx women's side to head to Orkney this summer.

Also featuring 20 players, the team will be hoping to build on taking the bronze medal at the previous games in Guernsey in 2023.

Last year the Isle of Man side also won the inaugural Cherry Godfrey Cup, beating competition from fellow Island nations Guernsey, Isle of Wight and tournament hosts Jersey.

Having originally been only drawn as a reserve for this year's games - the Isle of Man women's team were dramatically moved into the main draw following the withdrawal of Guernsey from this year's event.
