Manx side lose out on penalties against Jersey at Victoria Park
The Isle of Man women's national football side have conceded their Cherry Godfrey Cup crown after a penalty shootout defeat to Jersey at the weekend.
In the final between the two Island nations at Victoria Park in Guernsey on Saturday (27 June), the Isle of Man took the lead through a Sarah Wignall strike on 31 minutes.
The Manx side held their lead right up until the final minute of normal time before a late Jersey equaliser leveled the contest to see things all-square at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
From that it was straight into the shoot-out with Jersey emerging 6-5 winners, with Tiff Sundby of Jersey netting the decisive spot kick to secure the silverware.
Whilst it was a loss on the pitch for the Isle of Man, two players went on to pick up awards for their efforts during the two-day tournament.
Captain, Becky Corkish earned the Spirit of the Tournament award whilst Wignall scooped Goal of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament accolades.
The Isle of Man had gone into this year's event as defending champions, having won the inaugural edition of the competition in Jersey in 2024.
The Isle of Man women's team are next due to be in action on Friday, 17 July and Saturday, 18 July when they host Ynys Mon in back-to-back friendlies at The Bowl in Douglas.
