Football: Corinthians drop first points as prem lead cut down

Castletown win southern derby to stay top of Division 2

Canada Life Men's Premier League leaders, Corinthians dropped their first points of the season at the weekend as part of the latest Isle of Man football fixtures which took place across the Island.

On Saturday (26 September), the Douglas-based side were held to a 1-1 draw at St John's United, a result which sees Corinthians stay unbeaten but see their lead at the top cut from six points to four.

Closing in on Corinthians are defending top-flight champions, Peel who claimed a convincing 6-1 victory at Braddan in a result which saw the westerners bounce back from defeats in both of their previous two outings.

Elsewhere, in Ardern & Druggan Ltd. Division 2, league frontrunners, Castletown fought from behind to end up taking a 5-2 home victory over southern rivals, Malew.

Behind Castletown, Foxdale have moved up to second and three points behind the leaders after a thrilling 7-6 win at home to Gymns.

Meanwhile, Sunday (27 September), saw a double-header of Canada Life Women's League contests with Corinthians unleashing a 12-0 hammering on Onchan whilst Douglas Royal now only trail Peel at the top of the table on goal difference after a 9-2win over Union Mills.
