Football: Ayre United appoint new first team coach

Phil Quayle steps up to position from combination side

Ayre United has confirmed the appoint of a new first team coach ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The northern club says Phil Quayle makes the step up to the position having previously led Ayre United's combination squad.

Prior to the appointment, player/manager Nick Hurt guided Ayre United's first XI to three trophies in the last 12 months.

Before the start of the previous campaign, the squad won the 2024 Eric Fletcher Charity Shield in August last year.

After that, Ayre United's first team went on to win the Plum Properties Railway Cup in December last year before lifting the Ecap FA Cup in April 2025.

Outside of those successes, Ayre United went on to finish second in the Canada Life Men's Premier League and two points behind eventual champions, Peel.

Separately, Mr Quayle guided the Ayre United combination side to a seventh-placed finish in Canada Life Combination One in 2024/25.
