Dunlop makes it back-to-back Supertwin wins

He takes 29th victory after dominant ride on MD Racing Paton

Michael Dunlop has secured his 29th TT win taking top spot in today's Supertwin TT Race 2.

The race was declared after lap one following a red flag halting the session on the second lap.

The final podium places went to Peter Hickman in second and Mike Browne in third.

Michael Dunlop - whose previous win in this class on Wednesday which saw him claim his record 27th win - was out front once more on the MD Racing Paton heading into the north of the Island on the first lap.

His pace was apparent as by Ramsey Hairpin he'd pulled out a 8.9-second lead over Hickman who in turn was also holding off Jamie Coward, Dominic Herbertson and Mike Browne who all were finding themselves in contention for podium positions.

A retirement not long after for Coward at the Creg-ny-Baa meant it was now Herbertson and Browne who were aiming to take the fight to Hickman heading towards the end of the first lap.

Meanwhile, Dunlop stormed across the line onto the final flying lap at 122.451mph from a standing start, just 0.3 seconds off lap record pace in the class.

Hickman meanwhile headed past the Grandstand with a 6.4-second gap between himself and Dunlop ahead but having opened up a 7.9-second advantage to Browne who'd made the move up to third.

Dunlop continued to bring the hammer down and by the team he'd reached Ballaugh on lap two he was operating three seconds inside his own lap record in the category which he set in 2018.

In behind the field was starting to spread out with Hickman 14 seconds back but with an 11-second cushion from an intense battle for third as Herbertson overhauled Browne at Ballaugh.

As Dunlop continued to eat away at his own record pace out front heading onto the mountain with Hickman back in second, the showdown for the final podium spot continued with Herbertson in that third slot just 2.2 seconds clear of Browne.

The race was then halted due to a red flag during the second lap.
