Defeated Manx boxer says 'the comeback will be bigger'

Mathew 'Magic' Rennie down but not out after loss at Wembley Arena

Manx boxer Mathew Rennie says he’s walking away from his defeat at the weekend with his ‘head held high’.

He suffered his first professional loss on Saturday (7 December) after being beaten on a points decision by Sean Noakes.

The Manxman had been in competition for the English Welterweight Title at Wembley Arena – you can find out more HERE.

In a post on Facebook he said his childhood dream had been ‘in touching distance’ but he’d fallen short ‘at the last hurdle’.

“I know deep down I can perform a lot better but I dug deep and gave it my all and for that I can walk away with my head held high,” he added.

“We learn from this experience, rest up and go again next year … boxing at Wembley was a dream come true for me, it just wasn’t my night but the comeback will be bigger.

“Massive thank you to my coaches, management team, sponsors and everyone who came to support me!

“As well as everyone who wished me well I’ve had so many great messages and it truly does mean the world! Gutted I couldn’t bring the title home.

“2025 we go again.”
