Cycling: Top-ten for Oakes at Rás na Mban

Fellow Manx rider Abi Clayton also enjoys positive event in Ireland

Isle of Man cyclist, Ruby Oakes has managed a top-ten finish at this year's Rás na Mban in the Republic of Ireland.

As one of of two Island competitors representing FTP-Fulfil The Potential-Racing at the meeting, Oakes managed to claim eighth place in the general classification following six stages of racing.

Furthermore, it also made the Manx rider the second-placed British rider in the overall standings, second only to Elena Day of Smurfit Westrock Cycling Team just four seconds further ahead in seventh spot.

Meanwhile, fellow Isle of Man athlete, Abi Clayton - also representing FTP-Fulfil The Potential-Racing - recovered from an injury after a crash on the opening stage to finish the event 56th in the GC table.

The overall win of the series went to Danish competitor, Olympia Norrid Mortensen of the Torilla squad.

The Ras na Mban - which translates literally to 'women's race' - is Ireland's only women's international stage race and was first established 20 years ago in 2006.

It's current format featured six races in five days, covering around 400km of racing which, this year, took place in the Leinster province.
