Cricket: Manx women's squad announced for first ever ICC qualifiers

Island team heading to Italy later this week

Isle of Man Cricket Association has announced the women's national squad to make its debut in the ICC Women's World Cup qualifiers later this week.

In total, 14 players have been chosen to represent the Island side heading to Rome, Italy on Friday (23 May) with the tournament itself taking place from 25-29 May.

The Isle of Man will compete in Europe Qualifier Division 2 and will face Germany, Italy, Jersey, Spain and Sweden with fixtures being played at either Roma Cricket Ground or Simar Cricket Ground.

The top two teams from the qualifying group will advance to the Europe qualifier where they'll face national teams from Ireland and the Netherlands for a place in the global qualifiers.

All matches will have live scoring updates and streaming via the ICC website.

In the lead up to the event the Isle of Man were involved in a four-team series in Cyprus last month against Cyprus, Denmark and Jersey where they finished second.

There, Isle of Man player Lucy Barnett was named Player of the Tournament and Batter of the Tournament whilst fellow Manx competitor Dani Murphy secured the title of Bowler of the Tournament.
