A member of Castletown Commissioners has declared her intention to contest the town's seat in the House of Keys general election later this year.
Carol Quine has been a member of the local authority since 2008, having previously been a member in the 1980s.
She was an unsuccessful candidate in the 1996 general election, in which current Chief Minister Tony Brown defended his seat.
Ms Quine has been a member of the Liberal Vannin Party but will be standing as an independent candidate in September.
Among other things she says she favours moves towards greater independence for the Isle of Man.
Tony Brown has been Castletown's MHK for 30 years.
The 2011 general election is on Thursday, September 29.
