Chief minister welcomes planned appointments

'A milestone in Manx legislation' is how some MHKs are describing two bills which have just had their second readings.

The first would allow for the creation of an auditor general to ensure public funds are properly managed and spent, and the second would introduce an independent non-governmental official, or ombudsman, to resolve complaints about the delivery of public services.

Chief Minister Tony Brown believes the appointments would be a major move in the right direction for the Isle of Man (play audio file):

The auditor general and ombudsman are unlikely to be appointed until after next year's general election.
