Isle of Man cyclist Mark Cavendish has been nominated for a Laureus World Sports Award, widely regarded as the premier honours in international sport.
The Manx Missile is in the final six for the World Breakthrough of the Year prize alongside Formula One Champion Jenson Button, Diving World Champion Tom Daley, U.S. Open Tennis Champion Juan Martin del Potro, South Korean golfer Ji Yai Shin and German Football Bundesliga title winners Wolfsburg.
The citation for Cav reads - "Recognised as one of the fastest sprinters in the world, Mark Cavendish won six stages of the 2009 Tour de France - a record achievement for a British cyclist. This followed on from 2008 when he won four stages."
The winners will be announced at a televised ceremony in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday 10th March.
