Boxing: Burden narrowly beaten at Algarve Box Cup

Manx fighter defeated on split-decision against top opponent

Manx boxer, Jade Burden, suffered a narrow defeat this afternoon in the Women's 60kg semi-finals of the 2022 Algarve Box Cup.

The Island fighter came up against the favourite in her weight class - Alessia Mesiano of Italy.

Mesiano - a world championship medallist this year - offered a high-calibre challenge for Burden as both played out an entertaining and close-fought three-round contest.

Following the final bell, Mesiano was eventually awarded victory via split decision to progress to the final in the division tomorrow (4 December).

Fellow Manx competitor, Jamie Devine - who's representing No Limits ABC in Liverpool - takes on Adam Hession of Republic of Ireland in the Men's 60kg semi-finals later today (3 December).
