Basketball: Jets continue perfect record with commanding win

Wolves and Southern Phoenix also victorious in latest league ties

Jets continued their perfect record this season intact as they sailed to a commanding 103-37 win over Hoops during the latest series of Isle of Man basketball fixtures.

It takes Jets' current tally to 11-0 for the campaign following the latest trio of matches on Thursday, 5 February.

Elsewhere on the evening, second-placed Wolves claimed an important and hotly-contested 78-63 victory over third-placed Cannons Elite.

Meanwhile, a clinical second-half display from Southern Phoenix meant they were able to turn the tide against Cavaliers to ultimately secure a 72-61 win at the NSC in Douglas.

 

Jets 103-37 Hoops

Jets set the tone immediately and never let up, storming to a 103–37 win after a dominant opening half. 

They led 34–6 after the first quarter and backed it up with 28–11 in Q2 to take full control, before closing out with 24–10 and 17–10 in the second half.

Jets finished with 43 field goals made (34 × 2PT, 9 × 3PT) and went 2/5 at the free-throw line, committing six personal fouls

Hoops recorded 15 field goals made (13 × 2PT, 3 × 3PT) and 2/10 on free throws, with four fouls.

Thomas Crosbie led all scorers with 38 points (11 × 2PT, 5 × 3PT, 1/1 FT), while Jets shared the load behind him: Wayne Mears added 15 (plus 1/4 FT), and Tom Dalton-BrownJake Glover, and Logan Glover each scored 14

For Hoops, Mairi Harrison topped the scoring with ten, and Gemma Kirkham added eight.

 

Cannons Elite 63-78 Wolves

Wolves claimed a big 78–63 win over Cannons Elite, using a blistering first half to build the advantage. 

Wolves led 20–8 after Q1 and extended that with a 27–22 second quarter, before Cannons battled more evenly after the break (19–15, 16–14).

Wolves posted 31 field goals made (20 × 2PT, 11 × 3PT) and hit 5/7 free throws, with 11 fouls

Cannons recorded 25 field goals made (19 × 2PT, 6 × 3PT) and went 7/10 from the line, committing nine fouls.

The story of the game was Viktor Capkanovski, who delivered an extraordinary 51 points (8 × 2PT, 11 × 3PT, 2/2 FT). 

Cannons were led by Rowan Coulter with 20 (5 × 2PT, 3 × 3PT), while Jack Wilkinson added 14 and Gabe Thatcher scored ten.

 

Cavaliers 61-72 Southern Phoenix

Southern Phoenix produced a strong finish to defeat Cavaliers 72–61, turning a tight contest into a decisive win late on. 

The teams were level after the first quarter (13–13), but Cavaliers edged Q2 (24–15) to lead at half-time. 

Phoenix responded emphatically after the break, outscoring Cavaliers 18–8 in Q3 and 26–16 in Q4 to complete the turnaround.

Cavaliers recorded 24 field goals made (20 × 2PT, 4 × 3PT) and finished 7/14 at the line, with 15 fouls

Phoenix made 26 field goals (17 × 2PT, 9 × 3PT) and hit 11/18 free throws, committing 14 fouls.

Dave Minay carried Cavaliers with 37 points (16 × 2PT, 1 × 3PT, 2/8 FT), while James Capelen added 11 (including 2 threes). 

Phoenix were led by Matthew Jones with 27 (8 × 2PT, 2 × 3PT, 5/8 FT) and Konrad Hand with 22 (3 × 2PT, 5 × 3PT).

The next league matches will take place tomorrow (12 February) at the NSC in Douglas and will feature Wolves vs Jets at 7pm followed by Cannons Elite vs Cavaliers and Hoops vs Pirates, both at 8.30pm.
