Athletics: Island competitors take on Manchester Half Marathon

Schade and Cain set quickest Manx times

No fewer than 34 local competitors put in a series of positive performances during this year's Manchester Half Marathon.

Of the big contingent of Island participants in the 2026 event on Sunday, 4 October, Corbyn Schade and Christa Cain were the first Isle of Man runners to cross the finish line.

Schade put in a time of one hour, eight minutes and 22 seconds whilst Cain followed just a few minutes later in one hour, 14 minutes and seven seconds.

Furthermore, Cain's time meant she finished sixth overall in the women's event and in top spot in the F40 age category whilst Schade's pace saw him finish inside the top-60 overall and took more than four minutes off his previous personal best in the discipline.

More broadly, 12 Isle of Man athletes managed to complete the course in under 90 minutes with the others to finish under that time including David James, Paul Sykes, Ryan Hampson, Dawn Atherton, Steven Fragher, Ollie Venables, Andrew Falconer, Becci Pate, Joanne Schade and Aaron Kiernan.

Separately, Isle of Man amputee footballer, Sean Jackson also completed the half marathon whilst raising money for the England national amputee football team for its trip to the WAFF World Cup in Mexico in November.

Jackson - who will captain England at this year's world cup - finished the course in one hour, 46 minutes and 45 seconds.
