Athletics: Corrin Leeming takes victory in Durham 10k race

He finished nearly a minute ahead of nearest opposition

Manx athlete Corrin Leeming has taken his second 10k race win in quick succession taking top spot in the recent Durham 10k race.

The Western AC competitor claimed victory last Thursday evening (18 June) in a time of 30 minutes for 47 seconds.

It was nearly a whole minute clear of his nearest competition - Adrian Bailes of Birtley AC - who finished second (31 minutes 42 seconds) whilst Sunderland Harriers & AC runner Stephen Jackson completed the podium in third (32 minutes 31 seconds).

The event - part of the Durham City Run Festival - attracted 1,411 runners and was staged over a twisty and technical loop around the historic city centre including several cobbled street climbs which proved slippery under foot after prior rain showers.

A small group including Leeming running for the Isle of Man Western Athletics Club (Western AC) quickly established itself at the front of the race in the opening kilometres which gradually whittled down in size over the climbs.

Leeming moved to the front placing a dig at the 6km marker, enabling him to establish a gap which he gradually increased until the finish line to take a commanding win.

Furthermore, Leeming's winning time tops the pace he managed when he won the Chorley 10k back on 5 May in 31 minutes 50 seconds.
