Island athletes have impressed again in recent weeks

Is the Isle of Man entering a 'golden era' when it comes to athletics?

One local correspondent in the sport believes it's possible following another string of impressive displays from local competitors in events over the past few weeks.

Among the highlights, endurance athlete Christa Cain smashed her own Manx women's marathon record at the Chicago Marathon on 12 October and was the first British female runner to cross the line.

Speaking to Manx Radio, Dave Griffiths was asked why we may be seeing other names starting to emerge on the national and international stage:

Cain was one of eight competitors to complete the Chicago event which is considered by some to be among the elite marathon meetings in the world.

Separately, on the same day there were a number of positive performances in the Manchester Half Marathon.

Included in the standouts, Corrin Leeming went on to finish 13th overall whilst Emily Mylchreest shattered her personal best over that distance by nearly five minutes to be the first female Isle of Man finisher.
