Archibald retires from road racing

Three-time T.T. winner Adrian Archibald has retired from road racing.

With finances tight, the 43 year-old from Ballymoney made the decision after discussions with his long-term sponsor Nigel Henry.

Archibald is one of a rare breed of competitors around the Mountain Course to have beaten John McGuinness in a big bike race.

He won the prestigious Senior twice - his greatest triumph came in the toughest of circumstances in 2003.

Following the death of TAS Suzuki team-mate David Jefferies in Thursday practice, Adrian went on to win both the Formula One and Senior races at the meeting.

He also won four races at the Ulster Grand Prix and one at the North West 200.
