'Island must stand up for itself'

A candidate in September's general election has repeated his view that the Isle of Man needs more representation on a political level in the United Kingdom.

Geoffrey Boot, who is contesting the single seat in Glenfaba, received 40 per cent of the vote when he was an unsuccessful candidate in the constituency five years ago.

The 56-year-old businessman and air racing champion comes from a political background in the UK and has business interests and property there.

However, he has again declared he would end 95 per cent of his off-island commitments should he be elected.

On Mandate today (Thursday), he said he believed the Isle of Man needed to stand up for itself and tackle its problems with 'Manx solutions' (listen to audio file below):

The only other candidate in Glenfaba so far is sitting member David Anderson.
