30 years of 'The Hut' at Billown

Landmark year recognised for racing hub

Today (29 May) an important milestone is being recognised to celebrate the bustling hub of racing on the Billown Course.

This week marks 30 years since the official opening of the headquarters of the Southern 100 Club on the Castletown Bypass.

Opening its doors on Sunday, 29 May, 1994 a presentation saw then Southern 100 club President Derek Nicholson joined by the then five-time champion Joey Dunlop MBE who unveiled a special plaque to mark the occasion.

After this competitors, club members, fans and others joined together for a 'Hands Around Billown' in which people held hands successfully around the entire 4.25-mile course.

This week, the Southern 100 Club says the venue 'is still the heartbeat of the friendly races'.

Racing on the course in 2024 got underway last weekend with the Pre-TT Classic Road Races from 24-26 May.

The next meeting there will be the Southern 100 Road Races scheduled from 8-11 July.
