Women quizzed to extend horizons
Pupils at Ramsey Grammar School have had their career horizons widened today, at a special event for Inspiring Women week.
Around 150 Year 9 pupils took part in a speed-dating session, where they quizzed women from a range of different workplaces about how they chose their job, and why they enjoy it.
In seven minute bursts, the youngsters found out about careers ranging from weather forecasting and fire-fighting to law, journalism and sports coaching.
The day was part of the UK campaign Inspiring the Future, which was extended to the Island last year.
It's hoped the direct contact with working women in the Island will inspire youngsters to consider a broad range of options - and for girls to aim at careers traditionally seen as male-dominated.
These youngsters said their eyes had been opened to careers they'd never even thought of:
Business case for horse trams to be put before Tynwald in July
Plans to turn 'underused space' in central Douglas into wellness retreat
Employment grievance 'upheld' against board of Peel Commissioners
