Ongoing problems with Fenella Bridge in Peel are to be the subject of an independent investigation, commissioned by the Department of Infrastructure.
The structure - which crosses the harbour at the mouth of the River Nebb - recently had the bearings in its swinging mechanism replaced, but they are again showing signs of serious deterioration.
The department is reducing the number of times the bridge is opened and closed, while a consulting engineer reviews its design and operation.
However, users of the harbour say that will be inconvenient, and commodore of Peel Yacht Club Andrew Hall is suggesting an alternative solution (play audio file):
The Department of Infrastructure if apologising for any inconvenience, and is reassuring pedestrians that Fenella Bridge is safe to use.
