A second world war artillery shell was discovered in Ramsey yesterday, police have revealed
It was discovered in the lane between Walpole Drive and Queen's Drive West.
The area was closed off while police investigated the device and tried to establish how long it had been there.
Experts later confirmed that it didn't contain explosives and it was removed from the area.
Officers say the shell dated from 1941 and had obviously been someone's souvenir but to dump the item where it was found was highly irresponsible.
They're reminding the public that if they ever come across old munitions they should contact police straight away and leave the object where it is.
Anyone wishing to dispose of such items safely should again get in touch with police.
