67-year-old admits handling stolen goods
A Douglas woman has been ordered to pay compensation to a shop she was caught stealing from.
Danute Kisieliene, of Palatine Road, was stopped by staff in Marks and Spencer on 23 October last year.
She’d been spotted placing a coat, valued at £79, into her bag and trying to leave the store.
When police searched her home later that day they found hundreds of pounds worth of other stolen items from M+S.
At Douglas Courthouse the 67-year-old admitted theft and handling stolen goods with her advocate describing the offending as a ‘worrying set of events’.
A probation officer told the court Kisieliene, who has no previous convictions, had been ‘overwhelmed at the time’ adding: “She described feeling in a very dark place.”
Deemster Graeme Cook fined Kisieliene £600 and ordered her to pay £406.50p in compensation to Marks and Spencer.
