
There's been a huge rise in outbreaks of the norovirus or Winter Vomiting virus in the UK.
The violent stomach bug has closed more than 50 wards in the UK.
Whilst the Island hasn't been significantly affected so far, Director of Public Health Dr Parameshwaran Kishore says the symptoms of sudden onset of nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea, along with stomach pains can be very unpleasant.
However there are simple precautions which can be taken to prevent the spread of the virus:
Dr Kishore also says anyone who is ill with the virus should stay away from GP surgeries or accident and emergency at Nobles Hospital. There is no specific treatment and the illness will pass in 48-72 hours. If medical advice is needed you should contact your doctor by phone.
